North Reading Fire and Police Departments Assist Mother in Labor

NORTH READING — Fire Chief Don Stats and Police Chief Mark Zimmerman are pleased to report that the North Reading Fire and Police Departments assisted with the delivery of a healthy baby girl last week.

On Monday, Jan. 15, at approximately 8 a.m., the North Reading Police and Fire Departments were called to the Greenbriar Condominiums on Greenbriar Drive for a report of a woman who was past her due date and in labor in her bathroom.

Firefighters and police responded immediately, and Firefighters Jon Burt and Jim Casaletto assisted the mother and father. Firefighter Carisma Michel, Capt. Mike Tannian and Officer Chris Murphy also assisted.

A healthy baby girl was delivered in the family’s bathroom and then transported along with mom and dad to Winchester Hospital.

“I’m extremely proud of the firefighters and police officer who responded to this urgent call for assistance,” said Chief Stats. “All five individuals handled themselves well and provided professional and compassionate support while making mom and dad feel at ease.”

“We wish this new family the very best, and I am proud of our North Reading first responders who helped ensure this surprise turn of events ended well,” said Chief Zimmerman.
