North Reading Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire

Chief Don Stats reports that the North Reading Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Sunday evening.

On Sunday, Aug. 13, at approximately 7:29 p.m., North Reading Fire received reports of a structure fire at 213 Haverhill St.

Box Alarm 52 was transmitted and Engine 3, consisting of Capt. Matt Carroll and Firefighters Cory Harris, Brian Nash, and Sean O’Brien, responded. Upon arrival, responders found that there was smoke in the front entryway emanating from an office space.

Firefighters found a painting smoldering from a melted electrical outlet beneath. The electrical outlet appeared to contain the remnants of an outlet splitter.

Power was shut down to the building and no additional extension of the fire was found.

Firefighters confirmed the fire was no longer active and Engine 3 set up a Positive Pressure Ventilation (PPV) fan to remove smoke. Engine 2 arrived and provided an additional PPV fan to assist in smoke removal.

“This incident highlights the importance of working smoke detectors in the home,” Chief Stats said. “The resident immediately left the home with her pet and called 911, helping us to respond quickly. We ask residents to regularly check detectors to make sure they are in working order.”
