North Reading Fire Department Extinguishes Attic Fire on Crestwood Road

Chief Don Stats reports that the North Reading Fire Department responded to a fire in a home on Crestwood Road on Saturday.

On Saturday, Aug. 20, at about 5 p.m., North Reading Fire responded to a report of an attic fire at 5 Crestwood Road. North Reading Engine 3, consisting of Capt. Dave Lee, and Firefighters Brian Nash, Sean O’Brien, Chris Hadley attacked and contained the fire. They were supported by a well-coordinated ventilation effort from Lynnfield Ladder 1, which was dispatched immediately upon the initial call of a working fire.

No injuries were reported.

Reading Engine 1, Middleton Engine 3, and Wilmington Engine 5 provided mutual aid at the scene. Andover and Danvers engines and a Topsfield ladder company provided station coverage.

The fire is under investigation by North Reading Deputy Chief Barry Galvin and the State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office. The preliminary indication is that the fire started in an HVAC unit that malfunctioned.

Chief Stats and the North Reading Fire Department thank the North Reading Police Department, Andover Fire Department, Danvers Fire Department, Lynnfield Fire Department, Middleton Fire Department, Reading Fire Department, Topsfield Fire Department, and Wilmington Fire Department for their assistance.
