North Reading Fire Department Welcomes Two New Firefighters

Fire Chief Donald W. Stats Jr. is pleased to report that the North Reading Fire Department is welcoming two new firefighters to their ranks.

Firefighter Nathan DiMeco is a 2018 graduate of Wilmington High School and has been employed by the Middleton Fire Department as a call firefighter since November 2022. He also worked for Cataldo Ambulance from May 2022 until January 2023, which is when he began his accelerated paramedic program with Professional Ambulance Service of Cambridge (ProEMS).

Firefighter Steven Yobaccio is a 2012 graduate of Lynnfield High School and transferred from the Lynnfield Fire Department, where he was employed since June 2015 as a call firefighter and since 2019 as a firefighter-paramedic. He already attended and graduated from the full-time fire recruit program at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy.

Both firefighters were sworn in on Feb. 27 at the North Reading Town Hall. Firefighter DiMeco will now attend the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy, where he will learn a wide range of skills during the intensive 10-week program.

At the academy, certified veteran firefighter instructors lead classroom instruction, physical fitness training, skills training and firefighting practice. Students are given training in public fire education, hazardous material incident mitigation, flammable liquids, stress management, confined space rescue techniques, and rappelling. Upon successfully completing the recruit program, all students have met the National Fire Protection Association 1001 standards.

“I am very excited and thankful to have such high-quality candidates joining the North Reading Fire Department,” Chief Stats said.
